PROJECT GALUPPI

Project Galuppi began in 2008 as an effort to revive the sacred music of Baldassare Galuppi (1706-1785), a Galant-era composer who was famous throughout Europe mostly as a composer of opera. However, Galuppi composed several hundred works of sacred vocal music, few of which are published or have even been performed in the past three centuries.

Project Galuppi's first undertaking involved a performance of a Domine a 4, probably intended for performance at the Basilica San Marco, and dated 1762. The first modern performance took place by the chamber orchestra and chorus of the Hotchkiss Summer Portals program in Lakeville, CT, in July, 2009. The score and performance was prepared by Christopher Eanes. Christopher Shepard is the Music Director of the Portals Chamber Music Program.

The Hotchkiss Summer Portals Chamber Music Program and the Cincinnati Boychoir are partner institutions in Project Galuppi. If you are interested in the works currently under preparation, or would like to contact us for any reason, we welcome your phonecall!
